Apple Working With Health Canada to Bring Apple Watch Series 4 ECG Feature to Canada
Apple is working with Health Canada to bring the Apple Watch Series 4 ECG functionality to Canada. The ECG functionality in the Apple Watch Series 4 won’t be available at launch but it will make its way to customers in the United States via a future software update.
Customers in other parts of the world will have to wait until Apple gets around to getting the required approval from local health and regulatory bodies in various countries.
While it is likely that Apple is working behind the scenes to get approval from various regulatory bodies, it has so far only confirmed that it is working with Health Canada to get the necessary approval for the Apple Watch Series 4 ECG feature. Health Canada has similar regulations like the FDA in the US for an ECG device so its likely that the ECG feature of Apple Watch Series 4 will get the necessary approval sooner than later.
The big issue with the Apple Watch Series 4 ECG feature that it is only capable of doing an electrocardiogram. The data from the wearable is unlikely to be good enough to be used by doctors and they will have to run their own suite of tests before treating a patient. Nonetheless, given how the Apple Watch has already managed to save the lives of its wearer on multiple occasions, the ECG feature of the wearable will also surely prove its usefulness.
Are you disappointed that the Apple Watch Series 4 will lack its much-hyped ECG feature when it launches in your country? Will you wait until the wearable gets the feature or buy it right away?
