iPhone XS’ ‘Most Durable Smartphone Glass In the World’ Claim Put to Test

Image
Apple claims the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max use the “most durable smartphone glass in the world.” But then that’s a claim the company has made every year during the launch of a new iPhone but that has not stopped the front or rear glass from picking up scratches or shattering on a drop any rarer. So, how does the ”most durable smartphone glass in the world” perform in drop tests? Just for comparison sake, YouTuber TechSmartt also threw in an iPhone X in the drop test comparison. The iPhone X cracked in the second drop test itself when it was dropped from nearly a 6ft height. The bottom right corner of the display cracked as the phone hit the ground on its lower edge. As for the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, they survived the drops from a height of 6ft without any issues. In the final drop test when all the three phones were dropped from a 10ft height, the iPhone X’s condition went from bad to worse. It fell on one of its edge and its rear and front glass completely shattered. The iPh

Apple Watch Series 4 Takes Center Stage in ‘Better You’ Ad

Image
The Apple Watch Series 4 (and iPhone XS/XS Max) go on sale today, so it makes sense that Apple is starting to rev up that marketing arm. On its official Canadian YouTube channel, Apple has published a brand new ad called “Better You”. It’s a short ad, coming in at just 30 seconds, but it primarily focuses on the Apple Watch Series 4 and what the new wearable has to offer. That includes staying more active, staying healthy, and staying connected. Here is how Apple describes it: “Introducing Apple Watch Series 4. Fundamentally redesigned and re-engineered to help you stay even more active, healthy and connected. It’s all new. For a better you.” You can check out the new ad below. The Apple Watch Series 4 changes quite a bit from previous models, moving some features around, like the microphone, making the speaker even louder, and, most importantly, shrinking the bezels and making the screen even bigger. The device will gain the ability to take an ECG test as well, what is promoted as one

iPhone XS Max Space Gray Hands-On First Impressions

Image
iPhone Day means incessantly refreshing a tracking page until the delivery truck finally arrives at your front door. But then the wait’s over and you’ve finally got the thing you’ve been waiting hours, no, a week , for ! It’s been a long day of waiting, but the iPhone XS Max in Space Gray that I ordered a week ago — with only a few issues getting there — is finally here. The FedEx driver was pretty excited about the whole ordeal, too, asking me if I was “getting a new phone” today. As soon as he left I dug into the box, grabbed the phone, and checked out what Apple had put together. Surprise, surprise, but we’ve got an iPhone. I don’t mean that in a bad way at all. The iPhone is a solid device, and considering we’re building upon the foundation that the exceptional (even with the notch) iPhone X put down last year, there’s a lot to like. However, at the same time, if you did pick up the iPhone X last year, or even this year for that matter, and you’re upgrading to the iPhone XS or XS M

Unboxing the Stunning Gold iPhone XS Max

Image
We haven’t seen the same buzz for the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max like we had seen for the iPhone X last year, which was a major upgrade with the all-new edge-to-edge design and Face ID. But I missed a larger or Plus version of the iPhone X. Apple has addressed it with the launch of the iPhone XS Max, so I pre-ordered it. To start things off for the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max launch day, check out our unboxing photos of the gold iPhone XS Max. Like last year’s iPhone X, the iPhone XS Max came in a white box, with the colored picture of the device on the top of the box. There isn’t any iPhone XS Max branding on the box. It just says “iPhone” on the box. I usually prefer the space grey color, but was tempted to get the new gold color. I am glad I ordered it, as the gold iPhone XS Max is absolutely stunning. The back panel is light gold or slightly beige-ish, but the shiny gold chassis transforms the look of the gold iPhone XS Max. Thanks to the edge-to-edge screen, and lack of bezels, t

How to Automatically Create Strong Passwords in iOS 12

Image
iOS 12 has a half a dozen new features that make password management on iPhone and iPad easy. The new password autofill option shows up at every login page. You can share passwords using AirDrop and Apple will automatically recognize one time passwords and present it as a button just above the keyboard. Automatic strong password generation is one such feature. Whenever you sign up for a new service or an app on iOS, Apple will automatically autofill the password field for you. With a strong, random, long password. And the password will be saved in your iCloud Keychain by default. This way, you don’t have to worry about reusing the same password everywhere (which is one of the biggest security risks). For the uninitiated, iCloud Keychain is Apple’s system for saving username and passwords. The login information is saved in an encrypted format on your iCloud account and is accessible on all your devices – iPhone, iPad, Mac, and iPod Touch. The logins are hidden until you authenticate wi

For now, Apple has only shared photos from its Apple Store in Orchard Road, Singapore, Apple Kyoto in Japan, and Apple Sydney. Check out some of the launch photos shared by Apple below. Apple’s CEO Tim Cook also tweeted on the occasion of the new iPhone launch. Thrilled to get these new Apple products into the hands (and onto the wrists) of so many customers around the world. iFixit Tear Down of the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max Finds ‘Notched’ Batteries, Bigger Camera Sensor

Image
iFixit might not be the first this time around to publish an iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max teardown but the company’s teardown of Apple’s latest iPhones are the most in-depth one and reveal a quite a few interesting tidbits about them. The iFixit team tore down the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max which gives us a clear look at the adjustments Apple had to make on the bigger iPhone. Firstly, Apple uses a bigger Taptic Engine on the iPhone XS Max when compared to the iPhone XS. This makes sense since a bigger device requires a stronger motor to achieve the same effect as the smaller iPhone XS. Secondly, the bigger iPhone comes with an extended logic board compared to the iPhone XS, with the display connector moved to the bottom. Contrary to what the first iPhone XS teardown claimed, the iFixit team did not find Apple using stronger water-resistant seals on the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max to help it achieve its improved IP68 certification. The teardown confirms that while the iPhone XS does in

Despite the minor improvements, customers seem to be liking the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max and the improvements they bring. In a Reddit thread, user jtx660 has shared his first impressions of the iPhone XS Max coming from the iPhone 7 Plus. First thing I noticed was definitely that huge OLED 6.5” panel. Its vibrant, extremely bright and immerse a f. After using it for 2 hours and switching back to the 7 Plus, the 7 Plus’s 16:9 rectangle display felt slightly dated. The OLED panel is what really stood out the most. He is also impressed by the camera’s autofocus speed, though he does say that compared to Face ID, he will any day prefer Touch ID. If I’m honest, I still prefer Touch ID. When the phone is flat on a table and I receive notifications, having to glance over so the p
